PROGRAM OVERVIEWS The training provided by our College is to prepare you for employment in the massage field. You have two avenues to obtain this training, either by full time or by part-time distance education. The Full Time program is described as the Remedial Massage Therapy Course. Remedial Massage Therapy Yr 1 and Remedial Massage Therapy Yr 2. The course is two years in length and upon its completion you will be eligible to sit for the qualifying exams set by certain provincial and self-regulated associative groups. The Distance Education program is provided through two courses. The first course is the Remedial Massage Therapy Yr 1 course which is focussed on Relaxation Massage. The second course is made up of the two-year Advanced Remedial Massage Therapy Course. Remedial Massage Therapy Yr 2 and Remedial Massage Therapy Yr 3. These courses focus on the therapeutic effects of massage and the specific application of massage treatment for musculoskeletal injury. Students who have completed both courses are eligible for Provincial exams allowing you to practice as a Massage Therapist.
REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY COURSE This is a two-year full time program dedicated to the study of Massage for both Relaxation and Therapeutic purposes. Most of the first year is dedicated to establishing a foundation with relaxation massage technique and theory as a focus. The second year builds upon the foundation established in year one with Assessment and Treatment becoming the focus. Students attend full time classes Monday to Friday 8:20 A.M. to 4:40 P.M.. Upon completion of this course you will also be eligible to sit for the qualifying exams establishing eligibility to practice as a Massage Therapist.
BASIC REMEDIAL MASSAGE COURSE We offer this one year program through Distance Education. Students attend regular scheduled seminars and workshops which are supplemented by Western College theoretical manuals. This program alone will give the student adequate knowledge and ability to perform Relaxation Massage. Completion of this level may allow you the opportunity to work in environments such as preparation for Chiropractic treatment or in the Spa industry. This course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Remedial Massage Course.
ADVANCED REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY COURSE This two-year Distance Education course requires the Basic Remedial Massage Course as a prerequisite. We devote the course to the study of massage as a form of treatment for Musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Students will receive training in Assessment and Treatment of Musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Completion of this course will give students the ability to sit for the qualifying exams to practice as a Massage Therapist. Students attend regular scheduled seminars and workshops over the two years which are supplemented by Western College theoretical manuals.
