PREREQUISITE

Applicants of the Full Time or Distance Education Program must have a Grade 12 or equivalent education; however, life experience may make the applicant eligible as a mature student.

Applicants of the Accelerated Program must be currently employed as a health care professional with previous training in bony and muscular anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology (theory components to our regular program).  An extensive interview will be required upon applying for the Accelerated Program to determine the applicant’s knowledge.

Applicants require a compassionate and understanding character, with the desire to help those individuals who suffer from pain. Students must work independently and have good organizational skills.


PROGRAM OVERVIEWS

The training provided by our College prepares students for employment in the massage field. Applicants have three avenues to obtain this training: Full Time, Distance Education (seminars schedule 1 weekend/month), or   Accelerated Program (seminars schedule 1 weekend/month).

 

REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY- Full-Time Program

This is a two-year full time program dedicated to the study of Massage for both Relaxation and Therapeutic purposes. Most of the first year is dedicated to establishing a foundation with relaxation as a focus. Year One Full Time is a prerequisite for Year Two Full Time.  The second year builds upon the foundation established in year one with Assessment and Treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Students attend full time classes Monday to Thursday 9:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., as well as some evening clinic shifts.  Beginning September and ending June of each year.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY - Distance Education Program

We offer this 2 year (24 month) program through Distance Education. Students attend regular scheduled seminars and workshops which are supplemented by Western College theoretical manuals. Year One Distance Education is a prerequisite for the Remedial Massage Therapy – Year Two Distance Ed. Course. The course is the study of massage as a form of treatment for Musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Students enrolled in the Distance Education program are required to attend regularly scheduled seminars approximately every four weeks, in addition to a considerable amount of home based study and practice.  Weekend Seminars commence September to August:

Friday                           1:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday     8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE THERAPY - Accelerated Program

Our Accelerated program is designed for current health care professionals with previous training in bony and muscular anatomy, physiology, pathology and kinesiology (the theory components to our regular program). 

Students in the accelerated program attend required classes during the Distance Education Seminars.

The Massage Application and Practical Theory curriculum is the focus of this class time with assimilation of theoretical information from Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Kinesiology and Exercise Rehabilitation.  The accelerated program may start the beginning of August.

Some required topics are offered on other weekends throughout the year.  These topics include Gross Anatomy labs, Nutrition and Hydrotherapy. 

PASSING REQUIREMENT for ALL Programs

Theory/Written Evaluation

The College will require students to reach a passing mark of 70% in all classes to move from Year I to Year 2.  The 70% average must be achieved in order to complete the program.


COURSE PAYMENTS

At your meeting with the Registrar, the College will discuss the different payment options available to you. For most students all the costs are totalled and a payment plan is designed. This financial responsibility will become part of the student enrolment contract.  A copy of the contract will be on file at the College, and you will receive a duplicate.

The following is a typical fee plan.

Total Year 1 payable as follows:

a)         A non-refundable registration fee of One Hundred and Seventy Five dollars ($175) to accompany the program application.  

b)         The balance is paid in full upon commencing the program or by prearranged instalment plans.

c)         All tuition is payable by Jan 15th of the following calendar year. Interest fees are charged on all overdue tuition.

Total Year 2 payable as follows:

a)         A non-refundable registration fee by May 30, of One Hundred and Seventy Five dollars ($175) and the balance is paid in full upon commencing Year 2;

b)         The balance can be paid in full upon commencing the program or by prearranged instalment plans.

c)         All tuition is payable by Jan 15th of the following calendar year. Interest fees are charged on all overdue tuition.

**Instalment payments are made by Pre-Authorized debit or post-dated cheques.


REFUND POLICY

The Private Vocational Schools Department of Education has a set refund policy in each province. A full copy of the policy will be provided in your student handbook issued at orientation.
